Do not be fooled by the slick mortgage ads, especially if you are military and think you will get great service because it is "Navy" Fed. After financing and refinancing countless times since the 70's I can honestly say that this is the most inept, disorganized, unprofessional bunch of clowns I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. They have absolutely no concept of deadlines or accountability, and no coherent way to deal with the mass of paperwork involved in lending today. Nobody takes responsibility for your application from beginning to end and everyone just points at someone else when they cannot explain why your approval and/or settlement is delayed or the status is unknown. They were so incompetent that we literally changed lenders a few weeks before settlement because their inability to process correctly put our deposit at risk. (If your loan is approved but you do not make it to the settlement table on time, most contracts permit the seller to keep your deposit and put the home back on the market). An ordinary mortgage broker accomplished in less than three weeks for us what these guys couldn’t do in over 60 days. Behind the advertising, they are truly a horrible operation.
