After a fall at home in May, our mother was hospitalized for a few days. Although she was fully vaccinated, she tested positive for COVID upon admission to the hospital. She was then trasferred to Manor Care Bethesda, ostensibly for rehabilitiation with the plan to return home or to a reduced level of care. Because of the by-then-old COVID test, she was isolated from other residents and much of the staff. We requested that she be re-tested, so that she could begin her rehabilitation and be around other people, but that was never done. While the staff presented us with a rehab plan, we believe that it was never started. Bottom line: she wasted away without rehab activites and human contact, and was gone within three weeks of admission to Manor Care Bethesda. While we fully recognize the need to protect those in nursing care from COVID exposure, as well the shortages of qualified personnel, letting her just wither away without ever reconsidering of her condition (zero COVID symptoms) or doing much of anything to actually improve her stae of health, leaves us with serious questions about the adequacy of her care.
