My family member stayed at Wilson for a month for post-surgical rehab. Our impressions are mixed. On the one hand, the staff that have the closest contact with residents were terrific -- caring, kind, and responsive, they made the experience of being in this facility much more bearable. The doctor, too, seemed to be knowledgeable and sensitive, and spent plenty of time getting to know my family member and assessing her condition as it changed. However, my family member was in really good shape for her age prior to surgery, and the facility's one-size-fits-all strategy actually meant that she lost the gains in strength she had made in the hospital and progressed very slowly toward recovery. Physical therapy was too infrequent and too "easy" to do much good. At the hospital, the doctors had had my family member up and walking the halls to build strength a couple of days after surgery, but at Wilson she was kept in a wheelchair to avoid falls, and had not accomplished sufficient "rehab" when she was discharged after a month. In summary, I think Wilson is a fine place with a caring staff for people who are severely debilitated and unlikely to get much better, but the PT regime is not suited to patients who need actual physical rehab.

Could not leave my wife more than two hours a day without coming back with her lying on the floor crying for help.

Patients become desensitized on using the nurses call button because of poor response, and difficulty finding the button when needed.
