I went for a diagnostic and estimate for a repair because of excessive noise from under the hood. On the first look, they told me that the problem was a low oil level, added oil and didn't charge me. They tried to pressure me into buying new tires which were definitely needed but I wanted to first see if the other problem was resolved. The noise returned on my way home. I made another appointment a couple days later and agreed to pay $132 for a diagnostic. They first called and wanted to change the oil because I had an aftermarket oil filter. I agreed to it because it was due. That did not take care of the problem. They wanted to remove the oil pan for an additional cost to check the cylinders. I decided not to do this because I had already invested enough and did not have a diagnosis. I picked up the car later that day and they mentioned that I have a noisy compressor. At the end of the day I spent $170, they obviously knew what was wrong, wanted to be paid for further unneeded diagnostic work, and did not provide a diagnosis nor an estimate. Bottom line: $170 for an oil change.

Found it difficult to get an estimate of time because scheduling is not part of the repair department and lacks info re car repair.

Fitzgerald's mechanics and service representatives appear to be well trained and highly competent. They are expensive, however.
