If you have health insurance and value your time, consider a provider other than Community Radiology Associates (CRA). For unknown reasons, when CRA submitted an insurance claim for a procedure performed in Dec 2021, they changed the diagnostic code from the one provided to them by the referring physician, resulting in greater patient charges. On Feb 3, the insurance company and I requested a coding review; however, CRA never submitted a corrected claim, nor provided the outcome of any review. On May 11, I communicated to CRA by phone the specific diagnosis code that had been provided to them by the referring physician. Rather than taking the information and following up on their end, the CRA representative insisted that I send them Protected Health Information (PHI) via insecure email, in violation of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. (I provided only the account #, date of service, and diagnosis code, which was already more than I would usually send via email.) I received zero response to my May 11 call and email, but today (May 31) received a notice from a debt collector. After my many wasted hours on the phone, and CRA's gross failures to respond, it is clear that CRA needs to find a new contractor to handle its billing -- and I need to find a more patient-friendly radiology service that will not waste my time with billing hassles.
