Sales clerk not knowledgeable about the washing machine we purchased. Unable to answer questions without referring to his tablet.

Delivery staff was outstanding.

Could not get the right refrigerator delivered. Took at least 3 calls and each time there was some other excuse. I canceled the order but kept the purchase and delivery of the washer.

Over the past six years, I have made the following purchases from this store: washer, dryer, refrigerator, dish washer, stove, three de-humidifiers, vacuum cleaner, air conditioning unit, and water heater (all Kenmore), plus two shop vacuums, a lawn mower, and back-up generator (all Craftsman). This is in addition to many other power tools and clothes I can’t remember. I estimate that we’ve spent well over $5,000. I stayed loyal to Sears because a) their products are rated highly by CR, and b) I had faith in their customer service. As for the high ratings, I’m not sure what CR is thinking. My dishwasher leaked from day one, all three de-humidifiers died on us (two just quit functioning and the switch no longer works for the other). The thermostat blew in the water heater and my husband has had ongoing issues with the generator and lawn mower not starting up. But the worst was my vacuum cleaner, it literally fell to pieces just under three years. So, I decided to get an estimate from Sears on what it would cost to repair it. They told me it would cost over $127 to fix! That's more than 50% of the value of the vacuum cleaner. I called the customer service department and spoke to their manager to request either a store credit or a refund. He was rude, confrontational, and patronizing. I was in total disbelief, especially since I had been so polite in my request and considered myself a loyal customer. He never once asked my name or details of my situation. When I spoke to the general manger, he was text book polite but was clearly on message. I got the impression that his mind was made up before he even spoke to me. He too never asked my name or details regarding my circumstances, I offered this information. I felt that they could have at least humored me by looking up my information. Ultimately, he would only offer me a 10%, maybe 20% discount on a new vacuum cleaner. I refuse to believe Sears doesn’t have the flexibility to do more for someone who has given so much of their business to them. Even a deep discount or a refurbished older one. He ended by telling me that I shouldn’t expect more than a three year lifespan for my vacuum cleaner. With all that said, I will no longer give them my business and I would advise others to the do the same.
