Mr. Franklin has a vast knowledge of appliances, old & new. He repaired our 25+ year old washer, and our 3 year-old refrigerator. Amazing guy.

I must have gotten Don on a bad day. He came out to my house to work on my old oven/microwave wall unit and was unpleasant, even downright rude. I had actually called Potomac Appliance not only because they received a high rating in Checkbook but also because I had called them several months ago when my unit started to malfunction -- shorting out every time I used either the oven or the microwave. Don at that time was extremely helpful, suggesting that I turn the circuit off and leave it off for a period of time, then try it, and that worked. But several months later when it stopped working, I called Potomac Appliance because I remembered how helpful Don had been. But when he came to the house, he seemed a different person from whom I'd spoken to on the phone. (Maybe there are 2 Dons who work there?). He was irritable and rude, demanding that my husband and I find a low table top or something that he could use to set the unit on once he pulled it out of the wall. He was annoyed and unpleasant when we couldn't find something right away. He did eventually find the part that was the cause of the malfunction and told us it was too old, we would never find a replacement because it was so old, and that we would need a new unit (which we half suspected but wanted to be sure). The entire job came to $100 which may be the market rate, even when the problem is not fixed, I am not sure, that was not the issue. But because of his irritable, rude, and unprofessional manner with us, I will not be calling on Potomac Appliance again.

After the first company (rated highly by another ratings service) failed to respond to either of my two phone messages, I checked WCC and found Potomac Appliances. Don called me back promptly that evening and came out (precisely within the narrow time window he set) the following morning (after handling 2 prior service calls). He quickly diagnosed my Bosch dishwasher leakage problem as a brittle and cracked drainage hose. His supplier did not have the part in stock. Despite Don having ordered the part by phone in my presence, the parts supplier neglected to place the order. Don apologized to the delay (though not his fault) and immediately hunted down the part at another supplier. He drove a considerable distance at his own time/expense to get it and then returned to my house that same day to install it. First rate work by a real professional. Would definitely recommend him to others and would call Don @ Potomac Appliances first for my future appliance repair needs.
