While Powhatan's physical plant and furniture are getting a bit run down, the competence and caregiving from the staff is top notch and quite reliable.

Powhatan is small, which makes for a more personalized experience. The families are supportive of one another. Our experience was that the staff was very caring. Although the building is old and could use some updating, it is in a lovely setting, has pretty interior patios, and a lovely dining room. The activities staff are excellent. I believe that any nursing home will have issues, and some people have unreasonable expectations. If you are actively involved and give them a chance, the administration and staff will try to be responsive to your concerns. Both my parents lived there and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
