The concrete driveway we had put in 20 years ago was spalling and looked terrible. We arranged for three estimates. Two of those appealed to us because each did a thorough and detailed estimate with discussion of what options there might be (surface treatment, dates of installation, etc.) The third estimate was $3000 higher than the other two, half of our eventual cost! Juan Espinoza prepared the estimate for Bright Construction and provided very thorough explanations of the work to be done. Although their price was $200 more than the closest competitor, Bright won out because they provided a very detailed proposal and had done excellent work for our neighbors. We found it easy to communicate and work with the office personnel. Tony was the foreman for our job. He was expert, extremely experienced at what he was doing and very patient with the many questions and concerns we had while the work was being done. He and his crew (all of whom work for Bright Construction) work together all the time, therefore each of the crew know what to do and how to do it. My spouse could not be there, and called various times to ask about exactly what was happening and to check that the drainage had been carefully engineered. Tony accepted those questions with grace and gave full and reassuring explanations about the work. We never needed to worry. Tony (and his crew) knew exactly what they were doing. The work was checked and rechecked to make sure that everything was correct at each step of the project before moving on to the next stage of the work. It is raining this morning and the water is draining exactly as we had hoped. A note: The night before the work was to be done, long after business hours, we suddenly realized that the unfortunate angle in our driveway could be ameliorated by simply adding a curve. Since everything was so carefully spelled out in the contract and because they had probably had to put in an order for the concrete the previous day, we thought it was unlikely that we could change the plan. Tony assured us that he could certainly make the change—and what a good change it is. We now have a smooth beautiful curve that will be much more functional than the old driveway. Also: When the concrete forms could be removed, a crew member was dispatched to replace the dirt/grass that had been cut out in order place them. He then seeded the disturbed areas and spread straw over them for protection. That was in their contract, but still, pretty nice!
