Steve Edlin [aka Berkeley Backup] is a genius, a magician, and a saint. He should absolutely be your first choice for anything regarding computers. I discovered Saint Steve a year ago, after reading a Checkbook article about “Computer Help (In-Home Assistance).” Steve has 12 ratings, all at 100%. Here comes the thirteenth. 100%. I phoned Steve a year ago, to ask him if he could set up my new computer, whenever it would be that I finally bought it. He could. That was his only contact with me. I am not an established customer. Steve owes me nothing. This evening, my computer discovered a new way to torment me. The problem was complex, the solution was elusive. I phoned Steve to ask him if he could help. This was after 7pm on a Sunday evening. Instead of setting up an appointment, Steve set to work immediately, trying to resolve the problem. Remember, he was talking to a stranger. Didn’t matter. He was going to resolve the stranger’s problem. He asked me to do a lot of magic stuff which would never have occurred to me, but he knew what he was doing. That established his status as a magician. He ultimately solved the problem. Thus, his status as a genius. It was the saintly part which especially touched me. Steve devoted over 90 minutes, on a Sunday evening, working through this, solving this. I asked him how I could pay him. No payment. 90 minutes of a professional’s time, and it was given, to a stranger, as a gift. Thus, the canonization of Saint Steve. Steve Edlin, a computer specialist who is very competent in solving computer problems, and is a very, very good person. Steve Edlin/Berkeley Backup is, hereafter, my perpetual source of assistance for anything involving computers. I suggest that you, too, make Steve Edlin your computer go-to guy.

Steve has been helping me for years, taking care of problems either on site or remotely. And he has prepared and installed several new computers and printers, making sure I was comfortable with how they work. Highly recommended.
