I had a 16' section of fence that had fallen apart at the front of the house. I called three fence builders that were highly rated on Yelp and had contractor licenses according to the State of California. One said the job was too small, but their workers took side jobs (but not themselves licensed). Another gave an estimate of $960. Galvan said that his minimum was $600 but thought that it would be less, assuming the post between the 8' sections were not changed. I checked the post, and it seemed fine. After I sent a picture of the fence, he came back with an estimate of $800. I verified that the post would be changed. I took that. I watched off and on, and the two workers seemed very good. Mr. Galvan himself came by, and I talked to him for perhaps 20 minutes on fence building in general and his history in the industry. Boy, you can learn a lot talking to experts. I was quite impressed with his knowledge. I also noticed that the board on the bottom of the fence was an inch thick. Since that is what really keeps the fence from sagging over time, the stiffer the better. The fence along my entire yard has much thinner bottom board, perhaps a half inch thick. Some of those have bowed over time and are on the verge of going. I don't know if the rest of the industry has gone this way with the bottom board, but I am more than impressed. And the fence looks great, although perhaps not perfect if you are really picky. Good enough for me since fences go downhill over time. I expect this to last much longer than the rest of my fence. If I need my fence redone, I will try to go with him, assuming he does not retire first.
