Velocity Auto Glass 2885 Willow Rd #6 San Pablo, CA 94806 and other locations 1.800.624.6861/1.800.621.6861 https://velocityautoglass.com/ The front door window on the passenger side of my 2005 Volvo XC70 4-door sedan malfunctioned. When attempting to lower the window the glass fell into the well of the door. The manager of an Albany body shop that I previously used suggested we try Velocity who will come to the house. He said they should be able to deal with this situation without going to Volvo, an expensive option. Velocity insisted I get the "regulator" part first then call them to install. AutoZone ordered the "Window Regulator" for $98.76 for us to pick up. I called Velocity Auto Glass and gave our house and POTS phone number. Our cost would be $170 payable to technician now enroute. The technician said the job would take about 25 minutes. Two hours later he called his boss. Of two blue plastic "end pieces" required by the window, one was obviously broken and needed to be replaced. I insisted the technician get the required pieces due to his knowledge of the situation. The boss wanted us to pay half of the $170 cost upfront but we had previous experience paying ahead to a jobber who never came back. The boss finally agreeded that we could pay after the job was completed. Several days later "Noe" a different Velocity Auto Glass technician arrived. This guy spoke reasonably good English. He seemed more comfortable working on the 2005 Volvo than the initial technician. His work flow was reasonably smooth. I asked him about inserting some lubricant in the moving mechanism. Before closing up of the door's inside paneling he used WD40 spray to lubricate quite a few moving parts. I thought a more permanent lubricant, such as grease, would have had a greater durability than the lightweight WD40. Noe was constantly checking to see whatever he worked on worked. He spent much time checking the movement of the window to make sure it would go up and down with intermittent stops and starts. He said the Volvo computer stored data related to window movement and positioning. The car needed to be used on the street for a longer distance so the computer would reset the window opening device information. He and I tested operations related to the front doors to insure the window repair was satisfactory. He told me if there is problems with the window later to call Velocity and he would come to check on this. He worked up the invoice adding the two plastic parts that was separately ordered. The total showed $188.00 for which a check was written to Velocity Auto Glass. A few days later the glass again fell down inside the door. A phone call brought Noe who quickly fixed the problem. He connected a device to the car's computer and showed me the computer indicated the window was correctly adjusted now. He said several times previously the computer's handling of the individual windows was known to be a bit quirky. However, my subsequent use of the Volvo is for short trips and that window while it opens and closes is still a bit quirky. I need to keep a finger on the up button to press it again as the window reaches the top or else it automatically goes down. We are still waiting for the computer to reset. Overall, I was surprised that Velocity insisted I buy the "Window Regulator" but in a way it made sense as they would never be stuck with it if the vehicle owner backed out before the job was started. The technicians were pleasant enough although communication was a bit awkward at times. Coming to the house to repair the window was definitely convenient. I would work with them again.
