I saw one advisor who told me that she thought more than $3000 of investment losses could be deducted from a given year's taxable income, and that she would check it for sure and get back to me "shortly." After waiting 8 days, I called another person who had some years ago been very helpful in transferring my IRA to Fidelity, and he had one of his assistants call and tell me he too would get back to me with an answer to my original question by "the next day." That was more than a week ago. In the meantime, I never heard any followup from the guy whose assistant the second person was. In sum, not a very impressive performance from any of the three people I spoke to.
