This review serves as a preliminary evaluation of our experience with Evergreen Fence and Deck due to pending work completion as of January 28, 2019. We hired Evergreen Fence and Deck to demolish our old deck and build a new screened porch with adjoining deck and built-in shed during the fall of 2017. Mark Dillon, the owner, was willing to work with our general layout, from which he developed a complete plan to include drawings.   We were impressed with Mark’s knowledge, especially with TREX decking, and appreciated his recommendations. We had originally planned to start the project in early October, but Mark missed his start date due to his ongoing projects.  In addition, he kept changing the date and delayed submitting the required permits until right before he was ready to start.   Unfortunately, this resulted in additional delays due to city approval problems.  Work didn’t begin until the second week of November which pushed most of the build into the cold season. Mark has an excellent crew. Mikey and Dave started by demolishing the existing deck with cleanup and disposal and built the new foundation quickly. We appreciated their professionalism and excellent input into improving the build.  After this, Alejandro and Anderson took over, and they constructed the roof, screen, rails and shed during often cold and challenging weather conditions.  Alejandro and Anderson are both fine craftsmen.  We appreciated their efforts to make sure the work was done right the first time.  During construction, we did have some issues with the delivery of improper lumber and materials and we had to be VERY insistent with Mark to use the proper material as was outlined in our contract.  Another surprise was a late change in the location of gutters which resulted in additional construction changes and additional landscaping we had not originally anticipated.  Due to the cold weather, they were unable to do the final power wash on the deck and porch and the job was “completed, (sans $300 power wash) on January 31, 2018.  In August of the same year, we notified Mark of problems we were experiencing with some PVC boards bending in the heat.  Also, we were experiencing water seepage from the deck into the built-in “water tight” shed he promised in our contract. Mark came out and it was determined this was due to lack of proper flashing around the trim and the fact the TREX RAINESCAPE had not been extended enough over the shed’s double doors during construction.  Mark sent his men over to do most of the repairs at no additional charge.  Because this “additional work” has to be scheduled between his current projects, his enthusiasm since then has seemed to wane.  As of today, almost one year later, a gutter still needs to be extended to address the drainage around the shed.  Will follow up again with Mark and update this review and rating.
