Think twice before going to the emergency room at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, Glen Burnie, MD. On a Saturday before a holiday, I woke up with obscured (fog) vision in my left eye. I went to the ER and arrived at 0930. The arrival staff projected an attitude of not wanting to be there. The staff was busy talking on their cell phones or ordering their meals instead of caring for the newly arrived patients. At around 1030, blood was drawn from my arm. At noon, an exam room was available in the ER. Prior to a nurse or doctor speaking with me, at 1230, a medical tech came in an did an EKG. The tech left with the peeled leads on my body. I got to peel them off. Next another tech came in to due a CAT scan. I told the nurse, "Why a CAT scan of my head, the problem is the vision in my eye?" The CAT scan results came back negative for tumor. Next, the ER doctor came into the exam room and wanted to do a sonogram of my eye. So she applied a plastic path over my eye and did a sonogram. My retina is still attached. If the doctor listened when I explained what was wrong, she would have learned that I can see out of the eye, but my field of vision is not clear like my other eye. I asked the ER doctor if they had a slit microscope to examine my eye. They did not have this instrument. She then asked me to draw on a piece of paper what I was seeing. Bottomline, the ER doctor never looked into my eye to understand the issue. Worse, she made no effort to contact and Opthalmologist. The ER doctor recommended in the After Visit Summary document that I should call my Retina Specialist on Tuesday. This ER episode cost me $350 copay for the visit to this ER. I left the ER at 3:30 pm. In my opinion, the staff is unmotivated to delivery quality care. They seem to be going through the motions of processing patients. Worse, they do not listen to the patient's issues. In my case, there were unnecessary tests prior to even seeing a doctor or nurse. The ER doctor never looked into my eye to determine what might be happening. I still do not know if there was an infection which is causing this problem. Bottomline, in my opinion, avoid this hospital ER unless you have no other choice.

During time of COVID, visiting the ER is a matter of emergency only. Wait times are high and staff is overwhelmed with the number of patients.

Taken by ambulance after a car accident. Spent more than 12 hours waiting for treatment of injured hand and hip. Had shattered glass in my hair, face and hand. They were going to put a cast on my hand WITHOUT removing the glass. I plucked the glass from hand. They never removed the glass from hair or face. I'm grateful my injuries weren't more severe. The worst ER ever!!!
