I made an appointment with this company for an on-site visit in early 2024 after reading the positive information about the company at Washington Consumers' Checkbook website. John Clower came to my home. After he assessed my home's infrastructure and learned what I was interested in (a cooling system with small flexible ductwork), he suggested that I consider the installation of a ductless heat pump wall-mounted system to replace the window air conditioners I have been installing each summer for my house with hot water radiator heat. He said a ductless system would be much less expensive than a system with ductwork. Within a short time of the visit, I received an estimate by electronic mail with several options. I responded that there was another option that was discussed during the visit that was not part of the estimate. I promptly received a revised estimate with this option, which I chose. The company was very flexible about scheduling the installation while I did some work on the outside of my house in advance of the installation. The installation occurred on the agreed day/time and was completed the same day. The Energy Star system has worked very well since the installation, cooling my house with whisper-quiet operation. The company did the work to obtain an instant PEPCO utility rebate, subtracting that amount from the installation cost. The installation also qualifies for a federal income tax credit.

I began using this company because I was unhappy with other HVAC companies that many in my condo use. I chose them because of the excellent ratings on your site. I had a maintenance contract. On their spring visit they told me that the line set insulation needed to be replaced and also recommended a UV wrap. They showed me a picture (it's on the roof of my condo) and quoted me a price of $1082. I showed the estimate to a friend who is a structural engineer. He looked up the cost of the parts and said they were under $100. I asked BMC Clower to break down the costs, i.e. parts, labor, etc. They refused to do so. When I pressed, they said a supervisor would call me. He didn't. I got an estimate from another company for $250 (and they did a find job). I will never do business with BMC Clower again and I think you should reconsider their rating.
