The results of my landscape project looked no where near as nice as those on their website. I had them replace a couple of old, rotting, wooden retaining walls for me. Before they started I had them mark the location of one of the new walls because I was concerned that it might get too close to the property line. What they showed me looked great. Then I get a call the next day telling me that it would actually have to curve out 2 feet further than what they thought. Ahhh...NO! It can't do that. That puts it in the neighbors yard. I asked if they could start the curve closer to my house. Their response was yes they could, but then they'd have to tear down half the wall and start over. He was reluctant to do that. I finally convinced him that he should indeed start over and keep the wall within the boundary we agreed to.

The next issue was with the excess soil. I told him they could pile the extra dirt on the back of our lot and showed him the exact place I wanted it. Not only did they put it in the wrong place, covering up a very obvious path to the woods behind our house, but they didn't remove the chunks of old rotting wood. I had to have them come back and clean up and move the dirt.

Another issue was with a poor cut on one of the blocks. To get around a board next to the house they had to notch one of the blocks. The cut was 2 inches off and left an ugly gap in the wall. Rather than grab a new block and try again, they left it and continued building the wall.

After the work was done, on the larger of the two walls, it looked like it wasn't as high as the original wall. I looked at some old pictures of the wooden wall an sure enough, he stopped one course short of where he should have. He tried to tell me that he put in the number of courses he had in his bid, but I pointed to the part that said he had to replace the original wall, not just most of the original wall. If there was a reason to stop short, he should have brought it up. My hunch is that he stopped short because the original was over 4 feet tall, requiring a permit to rebuild.

Finally, there was an issue with the condition of the yard when they though they were done. His skid-steer loader tore up the hill going to the backyard, and all of the lawn near the wall. that's to be expected, but what is also expected is that they replace the sod they tore up. He told me at the beginning that they would put sheets of plywood down on the lawn so lawn wouldn't get torn up and wouldn't have to be repaired. They abandoned this plan immediately and tore up the lawn. When they said they were done, I mentioned that the lawn was all tore up, including some of my neighbors lawn. He tried to tell me he didn't have any sod work in his bid. I told him he also told me he wouldn't tear up the lawn but he did. How ANY landscaper could think about leaving a project they way they did is incredible.
