My oldest sister has high blood pressure which she refused to treat. After one stroke too many, she ended up with advanced dementia. Emilia's was recommended to me by someone whose mother had Alzheimer's. It's a single-family house in a quiet neighborhood. There are two houses; my sister is living in the Springfield house. There are only eight residents in total. My sister is a handful and can get aggressive, but the staff are flexible and work to accommodate her (such as allowing her to sleep in the living room with the caretakers rather than forcing her to sleep alone in her bedroom). The staff at Emilia's are very attentive and anticipate the residents' needs (such as bathroom visits). Above all, they actually seem to care about the residents. I've seen them spontaneously hug residents. The house is bright (there are skylights) and always smells clean and of home cooking. I never worry about how they are treating my sister. (She had a short stint in a Rehab Place because of a broken hip, and that place was awful.) If you want a facility with game rooms, lots of activities, a gym, etc., then you might want to look at the bigger assisted living places. My sister is past that point. Emilia's gives her a family-like atmosphere. They treat my sister with dignity and work hard to see that she is comfortable during what is sadly her end of life. Emilia's works with a variety of medical services (doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc.), but those, naturally, cost extra. I consider myself so lucky to have found Emilia’s.
