Pope's used to be my go to company. It was a company where I could get honest advice on service options, issues and costs. The best example of this was when Cropp Metcalf (this unit was installed by Cropp which I why I called them) came to my house and told me that my AC unit compressor failed and I needed a new AC unit. The way the guy was talking didn't sound right so I called Pope's. A technician showed up and diagnosed the issue as a bad wire and fixed the AC unit for a fraction of the cost of Cropp Metcalf. But over the last 2-3 years in a different house I've been getting fear mongered about having a furnace at the end of its original rated life potentially killing everyone due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The furnace is well maintained and has had various components replaced over the years to be well maintained. Any furnace new or old can malfunction and emit carbon monoxide poisoning. Regardless I did get a quote for a new furnace. The quote for a 80% unit for just over $12,000 was ridiculous. I spoke to another HVAC company that would install that same 80% efficiency, which is a very low efficiency, for just under $4000. I'm not sure what happened with Pope's, they were my favorite but I can no longer trust them to do anything but try to scare me into buying products I don't need.

The biggest concern that anyone should have when someone works in your house on something like the furnace is being taken advantage of. The second biggest concern is finding someone competent to do the work. My experience with Pope’s Air means that as long as I live in their service area, I no longer need fear that. The people who built the back part of my house before I bought it used flex pipe. I had a leak that was causing me to heat the interior of my walls instead of my house, with the bubbling paint on my walls to prove it. I thought I had to change out all of the ducting, which meant pulling down a lot of drywall and thousands of dollars in expense. In spite of being willing to pay that much, no one wanted to take responsibility for the whole job. I met your company at a home show. You were willing to take responsibility for the whole job. As described, you thought it would be a couple thousand. When your salesperson came out, he said that I misdescribed the job, and that it would be closer to $7,000, but that he wouldn’t sell that to me because it would not solve my problem. He showed me one thing I could (and did) fix on my own, and sold me on another service which would solve the rest of the problem, and the cost estimate was well under $1,000. Considering that this would take four to six hours of labor, that seemed reasonable, and I’m money ahead from where I thought I was because of his honesty. When the technicians got out here, they caught something the salesman missed, and were instead able to do an effective repair in under an hour, using a $35.00 part. Because they “goofed” and didn’t get my permission first (though I thought they had), they offered the repair for the cost of the part and a diagnostic fee, saving me still more hundreds. They came out quickly, they were clean, they were honest to a fault, and my house is better. Odds are your experience won’t be as awesome as my experience was, and you’ll still be thrilled with the service.
