I will never trust BBB ratings again, its top rating of H&H led me to expect ethical treatment and professionalism , yet it turned out to be the opposite. An abrupt change in contract terms —from a removal and replacement of my driveway to a shortcut, an overlay over the existing driveway with an asphalt layer . The added layer over the existing surface raised the level to a steep, unsafe point, where a car easily dropped down off the edge and could not get back up. I stopped payment on the check when I saw this and noticed that the widening was never done. Yet, the paver, took advantage of my trust and promised to fix everything if I rescinded the hold. I trusted him, and as a result am still waiting to have a fully useable driveway. It took me 7 months to convince him to backfill the steep drop, but he filled the gap with gravel that dispersed on contact with foot or wheel, so it turned out useless. Still have to park further away from the edge, still waiting for him to be smitten with a fit of ethics and come back and do it right. Even though he saved himself in money , time and labor, he never agreed to credit me with the difference. Arbitration and courts ruled in his favor, his whole argument being that I had signed off on the job each time, which proved satisfaction with the job. the original job and the so-called correction; actually, I was told that I was expected to sign off immediately on completion of the job. Yet, in asphalting , there is no way to confirm the quality of the job until you can walk on it—not doable with soft asphalt supposed to be left to “cure”before you step on it, which takes days. Disingenuous, cynical, deeply unethical, abusive of my trust. Cannot believe that a self described “family business”could be so cynical.
