Extortionate pricing! We replaced three smoke detectors (supplied the new ones ourselves) and were charged $537 for what amounted to 45 minutes worth of work. The work was OK but the pricing was pretty extortionate. When scheduling the visit, I described the work in detail and asked the company for a quote. They said they would need to come and look at it and would charge $95 for the visit if no work was done. When the electrician arrived, he took one look at the smoke detector and said their standard price was $179 to replace each detector with customer-supplied detectors. Unfortunately, by then I was already $95 out and wanted to get the work done (since these are smoke detectors). If this was a standard price, then why couldn't they tell me on the phone up front. I would have just gone to someone else. I feel like we've been price gouged.

I called John Nugent & Sons because they rated high in Loudoun County Best Pick Reports. They charged $300 to replace a light switch [after the Loudoun Volunteer Fire Fighters cut away the dry wall after an electrical fire]. The electrician was focused on installing the electrical light switch. He told my adopted son who is a trained electrician, that he did not have any outlets in his electrical van. He was not overly polite and was eager to leave. A few days later an unsolicited Nugent & Sons came to the house and told us if we started the heater, the house would probably cause a serious fire. That was insulting and ludicrous because we had a trained heater mechanic helped us to purchase supplies from Grainger Industrial Supply, Sterling, VA. $56 on 11/14/2023 picked up two flame sensors and replaced them as the trained heater mechanic told me. Later he confirmed they were installed correctly. We were able to get the heater to heat for a significant time before it shut off. That was possible for the next few weeks. No fires resulted. and $31.70 on 11/28/2023
