I have always used Northwest Hospital, now UW Medical Center & Harborview at Northwest, for any Emergency Room needs. Within this past year, I got lucky with the one visit I had to make, and found them not particularly busy. However, in 2023 & very early 2024, I ended up there multiple times & they were always incredibly busy. Emergency Room visits anywhere have always been & are increasingly an ordeal in the time you have to spend there, partially because the doctors are careful to do any tests they think necessary, which takes time, & primarily because there are just so many people waiting for care with the most critical always seen first. At least they have expanded the waiting room into the adjoining & more pleasant lobby area, and they do bloodwork & the like in screened off areas when necessary. I always find the doctors and other staff competent, thorough, empathetic, & good listeners, even if your complaint is lower on the critical scale than a lot of others or you're primarily there because it's the middle of the night & no other options are available. The only exception in recent past was just one receptionist who was snippy without cause (beyond her mood & the stress of the job). Do take advantage of Urgent Care options during times when they're available, taking into account that testing at those locations is generally limited to x-rays, EKGs, & some kinds of bloodwork. I can highly recommend UW Medicine Urgent Care at Montlake and my daughter's family has gotten good care at the Shoreline Everett Clinic, now Optum. In the recent past I drove my daughter to the Northwest Emergency Room for severe back pain, but after a long wait plus staff predictions that it would still be at least 2 hours before there would be an open room, we opted to head to Shoreline Everett Clinic Urgent Care when they opened at 7am where she was seen much more quickly.

The two times we have needed to go in to the ER here, had as good of an experience as one can have in an ER. Doctors explained their recommendations well and were treated promptly and well by staff who are handling everything under the sun in terms of cases.

The Doctors are very competent and through and explain procedures the results of tests so that it is understandable.
