We contracted with Alco to replace more than 30 windows, front door and two French doors. The quality of the Marvin windows is excellent. Our sales representative was terrific. This was a costly job, however, and mostly all went fine and recommend this company. Here are some issues to consider, however, for others taking this on. Ask for more than a stick drawing of the windows you are purchasing that are not on display in the showroom. Some windows were inserted into frames with wider wood or a different kind of interior or exterior molding than we expected. These unexpected windows are fine but, again, not what we expected (including two with hand-pleated copper molding due to their curvature). Again, my advice is to request an actual rendering or picture of every window from inside and outside that you buy that you cannot physically see prior to ordering. 2. For the exterior framing, we selected from a small chip and did not detect its yellow cast. Request a large sample if not going with a standard white. 3. Following up on issues needing attention was stressful for me and my husband, but Alco did eventually follow up but for two irritating issues: a) the color and matching caulk of the new front door threshold is light and shows footprints and the caulk is an absolute mess on the brick. I wish we could have requested a dark threshold and asked for a solution to messy caulking due to the brick. b) request that all the sticky gum on the glass from the protective window plastic be removed. My requests to Alco for help with the missed gummy areas were declined several times during and after installation (including for a second-story window that cannot be reached inside the house -- and is now coated with soot in the gummy areas rimming the glass). Getting it off is not their job.

This is a tough one... I'll recommend but with some caveats. Zak and his guys could not have been nicer, and very clear on pricing, options, etc. However, we were told it would be a 6 week lead time, and it was more like 12 weeks before we got our windows installed. They were quick and neat on the day of the install, but we had to have them return to fix one window that didn't open and close smoothly and to redo some very sloppy caulk on the outside trim. It took 4 return trips to finally get a rain diverter installed (major communications breakdown on this one). Overall, we're pretty happy with the end result, but after we paid our deposit, we didn't see Zak or his project manager on site again. All the return trips could've been avoided with a little more on site project management.
