I’ve been going to Brown’s Hardware for decades and recently had two especially memorable trips. I needed a tool to take off the cap off lotion plastic bottles so I could clean and recycle them. The staff member tried several tools and found one that worked and was easy for me to use. I had gone to Home Depot to get some metal cleaner since I thought—based upon their website--they would have a large selection. But customer service wasn’t available, and I couldn’t find the metal cleaners So, I went to Brown’s, said I needed metal cleaner and thought the item was aluminum. In about 60 seconds, the staff member handed me a can. The product was on my list of ones to checkout and was almost the same price as at Home Depot.

If you are longing to visit an old fashioned hardware store, where everyone is friendly and knowledgeable, go to Brown's. The staff are incredibly helpful, have vast experience and seem to know everything. Friendly and not expensive.

While I pay a bit more for the many products I buy, I also receive excellent DIY guidance from the staff. For instance, installing new doorknobs with locks and changing gaskets on plumbing hardware. Recently, a new smoke detector, when inspected by a county I was told it was malfunctioning. I took the smoke alarm back. The folks at Brown Hardware demonstrated that nothing was wrong with the smoke detector. I believe in supporting local businesses because they support local schools, teams and community nonprofits.
