Home Depot's subcontractor, NCI, Inc., promptly and professionally installed a storm door, and authorized a $40 refund on the installation price after determining that it was not necessary to perform a build-out listed in the estimate. I had a less favorable experience with Home Depot itself; this review only pertains to its subcontractor, NCI.

Selection of a door required several trips to the Home Depot store to gather all the information and finalize the order. Dealing with the same sales person on each visit was not possible so the ordering process was very inefficient and in the end not very pleasant. Once the door was "ordered" the store's expediting personnel called twice to have me come to the store to review information on ordering documents to be provided to the door manufacturer. This infomation had been provided during the initial order. The actual door installation was subcontracted out to Nicolary Contracting Inc (NCI). The installation was relatively straight forward and uncomplicated. Don't expect any followup from Home Depot to ensure that the installation went smoothly.

We dealt solely with Paul Von Hoene, who sincerely wanted us to get the best front door for our needs. Our opening turned out NOT to be standard, so we had to order from a company other than our first choice. Paul made sure they got it right with an accurate measuring by Home Depot before the door was ordered. Although his information was comprehensive, there were things about the door and framing that I found out by going to THAT COMPANY'S website. For example, with the sidelights that came with the door we ordered, it is NOT recommended to attach any type of hardward for sidelight covering (such as the sheers we had on our old sidelight). Therefore, I would recommend that everyone also thoroughly research the company supply the door itself. Contact the door company, if necessary, which is what I did, to totally understand what you are getting. Home Depot has a wealth of info, but they can't possible know your personal situation. It is up to the buyer to do the research, which is fine with me. Home Depot did a very good job.
