I've built or remodeled three kitchens in the last 15 years using Ikea cabinets. I've done most of the work myself, but did twice hire people to help, particularly with lifting the heaviest upper cabinets into position. (Taskrabbit was good for this.) Ikea's quality is fine for normal purposes (e.g. their hinges and other such hardware seem to be the same as much more expensive Euro style cabinet makers use, and their less expensive doors and drawer faces use the same kind of MDF as used by other Euro style makers.) It's also easy to buy and later use spare parts, e.g. if you have small children and think they'll damage lower cabinet doors such that you might want new ones in a few years. There are two weak spots I've encountered. One is their legs, which place stress on certain specific points on the bottom shelf -- fine if you're using a light weight countertop material, but not for quartz. I saw blogs warning about this and have made my own bases out of solid 2x6 lumber, stained black. They required planing down a bit to get exactly the right height. If you don't have the tools for this, any carpenter could do it pretty quickly. The other thing is the instructions, which try to be clever for multinational marketing by having no words. You have to make sure you are on *exactly* the right page for the setup you want, because for many models, there are multiple pages that are just slightly different to look at, but produce wrong results if you look at the wrong page. Mostly this is easy enough to go back and fix, though.
