We were out of town and I told my daughter to check the times the plumber came into the house and when he left which was exactly 47 minutes. After the job was done the plumber said he would write up the bill, he sat in the truck for 21 minutes. The total billed for was for 75 minutes we were charged for the 4 minutes the truck sat out front before the plumber came in, the work he did, the 21 minutes he sat in the truck writing up the bill, and the 3 minutes until the truck left. When I called to complain the person put me on hold and said the GPS records showed the truck was there for 75 minutes and that's how they bill. I said after the work was done the plumber was in the truck for 21 minutes, they lied and said it wasn't that long. I said my daughter wrote down the times, they said they bill on GPS location times. I questioned the supplies charge of $100.00 and said there were no supplies the plumber just unclogged the drain. They said the charge was for the use of equipment to unclog the drain. I said that's crazy we pay a fee for your plumber to use your owned equipment, she said yes.

I hired H D Johnson to replace a cartridge in my bathtub faucet. The serviceman arrived one hour early (9 AM), which meant that he could not replace the cartridge because the water supply in my condo building could be shut off for one hour. Since he was already there I had him replace the cartridges in two sink faucets, which took about 30 minutes. There was a lot of standing around and also three trips to his truck. When the water was finally turned off he replaced the bathtub cartridge and left (11:15 AM). I called the scheduler to point out that he arrived too soon and that it resulted in a lot of time wasted. She agreed to deduct one hour from the time I would be billed for, which was acceptable to me. However, when I asked what the charge would be she quoted me a figure in excess of $500, claiming that the serviceman was at my premises for about 3.5 hours. When I pointed out that he was on the premises from 9 AM to 11:15 AM, she said that the GPS in the truck showed that he parked at 8:47 and left at 12:15 PM. So beware, H D Johnson charges from the time the serviceman parks the truck to the time he drives away - not for the actual time spent actually working on our problem. Considering how high the $180 hourly rate is, combined with the initial fee of $125 for the first 15 minutes, charging for the time the serviceman walks to and from the truck seems excessive to me but you be the judge. However, then I discovered that I could not install the lever handle on the new cartridge stem because the stem was too long. I called the scheduler again and she sent out another serviceman to fix the problem, which he did. This guy was clearly more competent than the one who installed the cartridge. He quickly fixed the problem by cutting back the stem. He also said there would be no charge for his visit. Overall, I was impressed by how good the second serviceman was but what this demonstrates is that the quality of service you will get from H D Johnson will depend on who they send out, so you take your chances. Given how much they charge, this is unacceptable to me.
