Tankless water heater installed by Bovio originally was intermittently failing to deliver hot water. A clearly inexperienced tech poked around for over two hours and ran a cleaning cycle, then calling the manufacturer and looking up info on their phone, and charged me $350 to say that "maybe" a new control board would fix the issue, the estimate for that work was an additional $650. I asked if a flow sensor might be the fix, as that is a typical failure, but was told no. A couple months later, got PSEG Worry-free to replace the $15 flow sensor, which fixed the problem.

Bovio-Rubino is now (after a merger) one of the larger HVAC companies in the South Jersey area which has both it’s good and not-so-good points: Positives: 1. Well-presented, professional and knowledgeable estimate [We did a total HVAC replacement A/C, furnace and hot-water heater.]. Answered all of my questions, inc follow-up questions (via emails). 2. Superior quality products (Carrier), in stock with a firm install date—that was done on-time. 3. Office staff does all the paperwork for rebates, utility financing, etc. No hassles for customer. 4. Even though it’s a larger company, it is still locally owned—and ultimately responsive to customer needs. Negatives: 1. The installation crew was prompt, professional and seemingly skilled in removing our old system and installing the new one…but ultimately had difficulty getting the new one to operate properly (ie they had construction & installation skills, but didn’t actually know much about HVAC!). Eventually, this required (at my request) one of BRS’ “service technicians” (who DO know HVAC!) to come out and fix (re-wire) the system so as to operate properly. 2. They push an optional, pricey, and confusing, annual maintenance plan which (considering their initial warranties for parts and labor) is ultimately unnecessary. This is, however, a common practice among larger service companies. 3. There were some minor “communications issues” with office staff regarding scheduling, but they were quickly resolved. Again, not surprising with a somewhat larger company. 4. Not the lowest priced, but that should be expected with a larger company that has larger staff (e.g. the office staff who do all of the customer paperwork!). I WAS surprised, for the price, that there was not an installation supervisor (ie an HVAC tech) to insure a proper install. I had to request this…to correct several install wiring problems!

NOTE: New company name is Bovio Rubino. Salesman/advisor was very knowledgeable and friendly. Gave us three options and prices on our Carrier system and offered free financing that I didn't even know was available. I've had five estimates, all of which have been very close in price. I went with Bovio Rubino as salesman was very informative and the 10-year interest free financing option closed the deal. Technicians did a great job on the install in our small utility room with all the plumbing and venting! One technician left around 5:00 PM leaving the finishing work to his partner. Unfortunately, this kept him here until 10:00 PM but he wanted to get the job done - I give him credit for his work ethic! He was also very detail oriented. Only negative was slight denting of our gutters caused by using ladders without ladder standoff/stabilizer. Damage does not interfere with function of gutter; I was planning on replacing them anyhow.
