We had to abruptly put our 15 1/2 year old dog down. Our usual vet was out of town, so we had to take her to another vet as it wasn’t possible to wait days for our usual vet to return. This was the only place we called that day who had a same day appointment. We made an appointment specifically to put our dog down. We saw the veterinarian for 2 minutes, she asked what was going on we explained everything to her. Her staff then came in and started the process. They came in and collect almost $270 from us moments prior to the doctor giving our dog the medication. We were so upset about our dog, so we paid and didn’t question anything. the next day we called and asked for a receipt. This business charged us $89 for a new patient exam! I wouldn’t call a vet coming into a room and asking us what’s going on, only to shine a flash light into my dog’s eye and nothing else, an exam. I understand we had never been there before, so maybe charge a small fee, but to charge us for a full exam at a terrible time for us was just taking advantage of us. We then asked if they could us a specific cremation company for our dog (we had to put our 14 year old dog down with our vet only 4 days before this, so we wanted our dogs to have the same urn). We were told they used someone different and that if we wanted to use the company we mentioned we could drive our dog there afterwards! There was nothing set up with this cremation company. I was not going to show up there with our now deceased dog to that establishment. They could have been closed or maybe they don’t take drop offs. The idea of that made me upset. We ended up paying another $195 to their cremation place. The total cost to put down our dog with the cremation from the company they use was around $465. 4 days prior our usual vet only charged us a total of $239 to put down our other dog and her cremation was included in that price. Plus our other vet did not even collect any payment from us u til we picked up our dog’s ashes, not while we were in the room sobbing right before she put our dog down. I would never use Longwood Vet ever again. I’m guessing that they charge their prices due to all of the overhead they have. You do not need a Ritz Carlton looking facility to be a good veterinarian. Our veterinarian is amazing and she has a simple office where we are not nickel and dimed.

Dr. Kim Knipe has been my vet for the past 10 years. She comes to my house to examine and treat my pets. If services such as x-rays, surgery are needed, I then take them to the Longwood Vet Center. Dr. Knipe has even come to my house for emergencies on Sunday nights.
