I believe FH Furr's model is to acquire smaller business to maintain an customer base. They don't seem too interestd in retention. I stuck with them for years because I liked a specific HVAC technician from the acquired company. For the first several years, I was able to continue to have him service our units. However, for the last three appointments, he was scheduled to come but did not after me waiting all day for him. Other technicians are very much hit or miss and generally I don't trust them. I'm leaving FH Furr because I have no reliable expectation that this technician will service my unit, which is why I tolerated the higher prices. Additionally, FH Furr is notorious for always trying to upsell you at every visit. I am comfortable deflecting those attempts, but it can be uncomfortable and wearing for some customers. Note, on a related matter, I received quotes to replace my hot water heater. I used Checkbook to call two firms and asked FH Furr for a quote because of my existing relationship. FH Furr was $1,000 higher. For the good, FH Furr has the advantage of being one stop shopping and they have lots of employees so they can likely address any emergent needs quickly. The problem is that price and quality is out of balance, which finally forced me to move on. As a final note, I did send an email summarizing my complaints asking for a response with 48 hours. It is now more than 72 hours later, and I never received a response. My fellow consumers can judge for themselves if you want to enter into a relationship with FH Furr. Good luck!

Expensive -- they charge by the job rather than by time. It cost me essentially $500 to have them install a Kohler shower cartridge, which I provided. The job took less than 30 minutes.

They called us and said we were due for an inspection. We did not have an inspection contract with them, but decided to let them come over. Among other things, they installed a water pressure valve, which was probably a good idea. The first plumber who came out was very pleasant but fairly new. A second plumber "with 40 years of experience" came to install the new valve. This involved cutting the main pipe to the house. The next day the joint failed and a flood ensued behind the drywall. Obviously this should not have happened. By the time we noticed and shut off the water there was $10,000 damage to the carpet and the walls. When we called Furr in the middle of the afternoon, they couldn't send anyone until the next day. It took quite a while to make effective contact with their insurance company (Federated, who never did send anyone out to inspect the damage). On the bright side, Furr immediately accepted responsibility and we had documentation of the cost of the rug and room renovation (4 years ago) and the insurance company reimbursed us promptly. Another complaint is that they made a lot of effort to upsell additional services. We do not plan to use them again.
