I didn't obtain multiple estimates, so I can't compare their pricing.
I contracted with Ayden Construction to repair two sections of subflooring in my wall-to-wall carpeted condo. In the end, we did not proceed with the work, and here's why.
Two areas of my subfloor creak and have a slight "give" when I walk on them. The issue is cosmetic rather than structural, but it bothers me. I wanted it repaired before replacing the carpet.
During the initial visit, the owner estimated the size and scope of the project and believed the repair would involve installing additional screws into the subfloor at regular intervals. At the scheduled appointment, the owner arrived with a carpet and flooring specialist, who determined that the affected area was larger than originally expected and would require specialized equipment and an additional crew member, neither of which was available that day. We rescheduled for two days later.
On the rescheduled date, the specialist, additional crew member, and equipment arrived on time and began work. They quickly discovered that the subfloor was not wood but concrete. After attempting the repair a couple of times, they found that the concrete was cracking when screws were inserted, so they stopped immediately.
They showed me exactly what was happening, contacted the owner, and explained that they could not responsibly complete the repair. They advised that correcting the problem would likely require extensive demolition and replacement of the concrete beyond the scope of their work.
The crew then reinstalled the carpet padding and carpet so well that it looked better than it had before they arrived. They cleaned up thoroughly and charged me nothing.
I know the structural support members are intact, and I have informed my condo association. The issue remains my responsibility, but at this point I have not yet determined the next steps.
Although the repair could not be completed, I was impressed by their honesty, professionalism, and willingness to stop work rather than perform a repair they knew would not be successful.
