My advice should only be considered with a full understanding of how limited my experience is with Earle, and the unusual nature of my two requests for his help in terms of their not being typical of what an electrician is called upon to do. I sought Earle's advice based on his high ratings with Consumer Checkbook at the time. The first time I called on Earle was when I acquired an electric car for the first time and wanted to upgrade my electric service to accommodate a high speed charger. It turned out that I could not install a high-speed charger without moving my electric service panel to the other side of my house in order to get the incoming electric service farther away from the incoming gas line, based on new regulations in the electric codes. I never proceeded with this project when I learned how expensive it would be. Earle charged me nothing after spending considerable time in email correspondence and phone messages to learn what I wanted and required. He had made at least one visit to my home as well. The second and only other time I sought help from Earle was when I had trouble adjusting a replacement motion-detector for a security floodlight hanging from the second story eave of the roof of my house, to detect motion on the ground of human intruders but not small animals, and to turn on at dusk and off at dawn. I had such a device successfully working before that I had installed and adjusted myself 30 years earlier, but it died of old age and had to be replaced. I rewired and installed the replacement motion detector by myself, but could not get it even to turn on and off properly. I unwired the new detector and was going to reinstall it on the assumption that I had hooked it up incorrectly, but then decided to call Earle for professional help, considering my own advancing age and how unsafe it would be for me to be on a 16-foot ladder under a second-story eave trying to do it myself. Earle sent someone to do the job for me, but when it came time to adjust the sensor, he said that was not in his job description and I'd have to find someone else to do that for me. Earle billed me $175 for the service, and I thought that reasonable under the circumstances.

Another great experience with Earle's, this time to install an EV charger. Earle's friendly advice and explanation were perfect and Luis, who did most of the actual installation was efficient, neat, and personable. And the price was moderate and fair.
