I have a relative Rhoda Goldman and I therefore have a fair amount of experience with many aspects of their services. My sense is the following: Rhoda Goldman Plaza is almost certainly better than many similar facilities. It's also certainly well above average. This is thanks to its legacy and those who run it, and it is a wonderful thing that it's not owned by some big corporation with a chain of similar homes. That said, I wouldn't necessarily agree that it deserves all the accolades it tends to get. What I believe is that they are relative because choices are slim, even at what is a pretty high price point. They claim to have more staff per resident than many other facilities, but the ratio could surely be improved as staff is clearly overly busy and there can be communication issues. Administrators and managers are good about responding quickly to emails and phone messages most of the time, but I've noticed problems of communication between staff members (messages and information, including important information) that is not always passed on. Some of the staff is extremely caring and other people strike me as rather indifferent. The rooms are decent, but they still are quite institutional in feel. Of course, people are also free to decorate as they see fit. The dining room food quality is definitely above average for this type of facility. The place could use a refresh in terms of overall feel/decor, but of course, that would disturb the residents. Overall, it is well maintained and kept clean. Despite the high price, I'm guessing that there are a lot of people working very hard there for not too much pay.
