This refers to BofA's central mortgage processing center in Texas, not to any particular BofA branch in California. The payoff procedure is absurd, almost comically so (except not funny). BofA sent us a letter with no return envelope, demanding we call a number to find out our payoff amount. We did that. We were instructed to send a cashier's check to an address in Texas. I went to the bank, got the check, tried to fill out the elaborate documentation required on the face of the check (almost impossible, but I squeezed it on), and mailed it to the address in Texas—a long, long address with a mail-stop code etc., allowing lots of room for mistakes. There was no acknowledgment that the check had been received or cashed. We were still waiting for our release of lien documentation about five weeks later. Finally it showed up in the mail, maybe after a couple of months. I would never recommend anyone obtain a home mortgage through BofA after this experience!
