Hard to say. I was brought in with torn hamstrings (their evaluation, confirmed by the orthopedic surgeon I saw a few days later). X-ray was done quickly and well, to confirm nothing broken. They provided me with leg immobilizer, a walker, and a taxi ride home, all above and beyond--no cost to me for any of it. BUT no pain meds when pain was really really bad, because I have acid reflux. That made no sense to me. Dismissive about how I was getting into my house (on my butt, eventually--no other way to get up the stairs with my leg immobilized). Very long wait to be released (approx 7 hours from arrival to leaving). I think care depends on what is wrong with you and who you have with you to help.

Had a medical issue on a Friday. Checked in to the GWU ER around 5 pm and was not examined until 3 or 4 in the morning, and not discharged until approximately 9 am Saturday.

This ER is crowded as well, being one of the biggest hospitals in the District. However, the staff are much more attentive & pleasant than Howard University Hospital ER. The wait time was kind of long, but I was afforded a bed to lie down on relatively quickly, and the doctor did not dismiss me as a drug addict and have me discharged. They kept me through the night, and helped me detox off the worst of the withdrawals (heroin), before giving me a patch to keep them at bay, and medicine to take home with me. There was really nothing more they could do for me, and it was up to me to continue care.
