A cleaning & inspection was recommended by the salesperson at Madeline prior to installing a top cap with damper. That sounded like a good idea to me. I think they would have done a good job, however . . . The technician looking inside the fireplace showed me a series of pictures depicting issues inside the start of the chimney that would require masonry work--another service offered by Madeline. I doubted I had that many issues since I have barely used the chimney. Moreover, I didn't see him take the pictures. When I asked him to show me that they had been taken inside my chimney, he just looked at me. I thought surely he would take another series of pictures (or at least one) to show me the issues were in my chimney. I persisted, asking for some insurance that the pictures were taken in my chimney. He just looked at me and said he had to call the company. He stepped outside and the manager/salesperson called and told me that there were times recorded for the pictures. No times were on the pictures but were seen on other pictures taken on the phone. I told the manager/salesperson to go ahead with the cleaning, but nothing else--I already had the check for the full amount written and signed. Instead, she had them pull their equipment immediately and leave. I was very disappointed.
