I contacted Fireside Stone and Patio (FSP) to install a wood burning stove to supplment my heat pump. The heat pump works very well at cooling, but isn't as efficient at heating my home, especially when it's cold AND wet. Tom is the owner of FSP and came out first to survey where I wanted to place the stove and to take measurements. He explained things to keep in mind, such as distance of stove from wall, potential need to use an elbow for the exhaust, using only very dry wood, etc., etc. Very thorough and we discussed the need to put a hearthstone where the stove would be placed. Since I was planning on removing the laminate flooring anyway, and my house sits on a concrete pad, that wasn't an issue. FSP followed up immediately online to take my deposit, schedule the installation date, and process the contract and other documents. Very fast and efficient. Also, the stove I bought was a Quadra Fire Millenium 2100, more than enough to heat my home of 1200 sq. ft. The price for the stove, installation and "starter kit" (IR heat sensor, moisture probe, matches, lighter gel, leather gloves and ash bucket/scoop) was about $10K. Another firm had given me a quote of $15-$20K for the same job, and comparable stove model. Tom came out about a month later with his crew, Chepe and Osman to do the install. They were fantastic: Cut the hole properly in the ceiling and roof , installed the stove and flue, plus roof unit all on the first day. They returned the next day to ensure no odd bits of packaging were in the stove and to touch up any scratches on the exhaust and stove with high temperature paint. The two men worked quickly and efficiently, didn't make a lot of noise and cleaned up thoroughly before they left (also showed me how everything worked!). I could not be happier: The stove works very well, using comparatively little wood (compared to my firepit) and it definitely heats my entire house. I suppose I'll set my heat pump to heat during the winter, but it won't need to do much, honestly. In summary, FSP did everything right the first time, gave me a reasonable price and completed the work on schedule and properly. I would recommend them to anyone for an install or even just cleaning.

I replaced the chimney and fire box to reduce the amount of cold air blowing in my home. Although the amount of cold air blowing is lower, there is still a great deal of cold air coming to my house. The new fireplace is amazing, but on days when we are not using it, it keeps the comfort level in the house low. We are still cold.
