Our visit occurred early July 2012, before Univ. of Md. personnel started staffing the emergency room. Hopefully service is much improved since our July 2012 experience. In our visit, arrival was at 6 a.m., no triage or other check by medical staff was done until after 8 a.m. because the only doctor that was on hand at that time was tending a prior arrival in the emergency room during that 2 hours. Patient was experiencing unexplained chest pain and weak or fainting sensations. While we waited, the ER receptionist staff advised against driving the patient to the Howard County Hospital in Columbia in hopes of faster attention to what at the time we thought was an emergency.

Had to go here because Howard Co. was closed to ER patients. We had a very bad experience and would never recommend them. I sent a letter addressing my issues and received a phone call apologizing which was considerate.

The wait for Emergency service was very long. My husband was in acute pain & needed to lay down. The triage nurse said no bed was available until person is called to be taken to emergency room. A dirty rug in waiting room was only place to lie down. Every person in waiting room was treated the same -- ignored, fill out form & wait your turn. It was hours before my husband was seen by a doctor/nurse in emergency room.
