Mohammed from HESS performed our energy audit efficiently and professionally. He provided us with lots of useful suggestions during the audit, and he emailed us a thorough report the following day. He has been responsive in answering follow-up questions by email. HESS is BPI certified, and Mohammed is very experienced. During the energy audit, Mohammed performs a blower test with an infrared detector to find leaks in your home. Most people understand the need for adequate insulation but not the important of having a tight building envelop—especially in the attic—to minimize air leakage out of the house. The report from HESS provided a number of recommendations to reduce air leakage, along with a proposal to do the follow-up weatherization. We have not done the recommended weatherization measures yet but anticipate an improvement of 20 percent or more, which will reduce our heating and cooling bills and energy usage while improving comfort in the home. The HESS report included information on rebates from Dominion Energy, which we were previously unaware of. The energy audit was reasonable in cost, about $400, and qualifies for a tax credit under the Federal Inflation Reduction Act.
