This company bought another tree/landscaping service, Thrive, and inherited Thrive's customers, of whom I was one. I contracted with them to periodically inspect and treat my trees but cancelled the service after a few months, primarily because I could not understand what I was paying for and found the company unresponsive when I tried to nail down and rationalize the costs. Sav-A-Tree is apparently a large concern, and I thought it was giving me its generic recommendations rather than assessing the individual needs of my own property.

This company has an emphasis on preserving trees, not just cutting them down. That said, we had 1 large diseased tree very near the house, and overhanging our slate roof, removed. Had a second large tree overhanging the house "lightened" and cabled. During the exceptionally busy time after the derecho, they responded to our call quickly and removed a detached large limb and cabled the tree and removed a smaller volunteer tree too close to foundation removed. All of our experiences have been positive. The tree specialists kept appointment times, looked carefully at the many large trees on our property, and made recommendations. They even took some time to discuss work we could do ourselves to preserve the health of our trees. The crew was prompt and did not damage the roof/house during their work. They were willing to cut a large trunk into firewood lengths for us. Price is not cheap, but is reasonably competitive.

I wanted some poison ivy removed from my front lawn area. After saying this was really too piddling a job for them, but they would nevertheless do it, I agreed to their high price (based on recommendation from another--now former--client). I specified that I wanted the ivy uprooted, not merely trimmed. They did the trimming, but not the uprooting, saying later that any digging would have been against their policy. They kept all of the money, however.
