We hired Borchers Mechanical Services because the owner seemed knowledgeable about our need to heat and cool apx 2,700 sq ft with a 2 head ductless system. The installation worked fine for just under two years. In Jan 2026 the system failed due to a refrigerant leak-which overheats the compressor so there is no heat or AC. This is not normal for such a new system and was ultimately traced to a damaged fitting (which the mechanic, who is the son of the owner, admitted to causing during original installation). Borchers was slow to respond, clearly prioritized new installs over repairs, and had poor communication throughout. They initially recharged the system as a temporary fix without properly diagnosing it, charged us $228, and the system failed again within hours. After more delays, they finally replaced the faulty fitting but billed us an additional $864, despite the issue being caused by their original work. Customer service was terrible (they acted like they were doing us a favor, when they were fixing their mistakes), there was no accountability or apology, and they hid behind a 30-day warranty for what was clearly an installation defect on a $15,000 system. While the install looked good and worked for two years, the handling of repairs was unprofessional and disappointing. We also received no clarity that this recent fix would work or about a warranty on this fix. When I asked if we might be doing this again in 2 months (ie, was this an actual fix) the mechanic said he didn’t know. I wrote the guy a check to get him off my property. I do not recommend this company.

They installed two heat pumps. Other HVAC companies did not know about or did not offer to help us obtain a large PEPCO rebate. They took the rebate off the estimate and will obtain it. They also handled electric box obstacles that another HVAC company said made our job complicated. We have used them before and think they are great.
