Brian Hockel is arguably the finest dentist in the Bay Area. He not only has decades of expertise in general & cosmetic dentistry, but is an expert in every aspect possible, including gnathology, orthodontics, and even sleep apnea. Hockel has taught at Stanford, conducted weekend training seminars on gnathogy & orthodontics for dentists who fly in from other parts of the country, and given talks at international conferences. My entire family has been going to him for 30 years. We’ve had old amalgam fillings replaced with resin ones, old crowns replaced, periodontal cleaning, and orthodontics — both pediatric & adult. He is professional, gentle, and truly cares about each patient. Here are a few ways in which Dr. Brian Hockel is unique: He doesn’t use amalgam for fillings, only resin, which he says helps retain the tooth longer. The dental hygienists don’t just clean the teeth, but check and clean the pockets between the gums and the teeth. The periodontal cleaning they do includes a saliva test for inflammation & harmful bacteria. Hockel doesn’t just straighten teeth (and he doesn’t pull teeth for orthodontics), he addresses the bite, alignment of the jaw, and entire masticatory system using a unique appliance. And he works with an oral maxillofacial surgeon to treat sleep apnea with a unique treatment that has fewer complications and a significantly higher success rate than average. Yes, you can find less expensive dentists and orthodontists, but he is worth every penny. He has patients that drive from hours away to see him. Plus it’s been wonderful to have one person who knows everything: from our orthodontics to periodontal to sleep apnea, and more, rather than having to coordinate between several different people. We can’t recommend him highly enough. (Note: No one in my family is related to him nor have any of us ever worked in his office.)

Great dentist but pricey. You can expect expert care. Office waiting times can become extended.
