Had a small, less than a dime-sized nick on the front windshield of a 2013 Lexus from a rock that hit us from a truck bed from a truck traveling in front of us on the road. Went for more than a year without it getting bigger, and even had it inspected no problem, but decided just to go ahead and get it repaired just in case. Found out USAA would cover a repair, and they had an arrangement with Safelite, so we scheduled. Safelite came on the scheduled day, which was a very rainy day, which surprised me that they didn't reschedule it. The car was NOT in a covered area and they made the repair in less than 30 minutes. It was raining torrentially but the tech did not seem concerned. Within a month the "repair" area had a growing crack, and now we have to replace the windshield. Safelite says it was not their fault and that they will credit the $88 repair price towards the cost of a new windshield,which will be over $1000. They also are impossible to talk to - you have to go through the 800/national line and cannot talk to anyone at the local shop on Quaker Lane. It is an automated phone chain process. The 800 number manager pushed back on any suggestion that they should cover the cost of the windshield and that it is only windshield REPLACEMENT that should not be done in the rain, not repair, but from what I have learned I don't think this is the case. Also, they said the local shop would call back but they never did and it is impossible to get ahold of them. They want you to use the website only, which doesn't offer email or a contact form - only appointment scheduling. Even their website says the repair should be done in a dry area. They don't want to be responsible. I DO NOT recommend this company. The phone number on Checkbook for this company looks local, but it actually goes to the national Safelite office automated service. The phone number on the receipt also looks local but goes to the national automated phone service.
