Water damage is a panic mode situation. I tried to “shop around” but there is no comparing when you are in a hurry. ServiceMaster personnel are pleasant but not as informative as desired. For example, the work estimate was $900-2000. That is quite a spread. The final bill came out right in the middle. Coincidence? There was no itemization of expenses - only hours and square footage. Thus I am at a loss to understand what I actually bought. But they don’t care because they have put the information in insurance terms, using standard insurance payment rates that are unknown to me. I felt I was expected to write a blank check. After 3 days and nights of a dehumidifier and loud fan blowing in my kitchen, sealed off by huge sheets of plastic, I had to pay for disposal of the plastic sheets, use of the equipment to hoist the plastic sheets to my 10’ ceiling, disposal of my old dishwasher that had leaked, and labor charges that must have included transportation costs. This is not a service anyone chooses. It is cloaked in mystery and loose facts and collusion with the insurance industry. I really have no way to evaluate ServiceMaster. My floorboards are back in place but creaky and I don’t know if I have or will have mold because that costs another $450!

came out same day as called and stayed with the project (flooded basement) until we were both satisfied that eh job was complete. Very professional and prompt, except billing is slow.

After calling several restoration companies it became clear that an assessment and possible reconstruction due to possible mold from a minor sewage backup would be costly and a possible ripoff. The technician told me that the small observable mold in one corner of the basement could have been there for many years and that disturbing it could cause it to spread and lead to a much bigger construction project.
