We chose Adirondack Fence Builders from a short list of companies we culled from Checkbook's ratings based on the quality of our conversations during the bidding process and their quoted price, which was 12% lower than their competitors' bids. Adirondack's owner, Rob, was unique among those we spoke with in that he provided us with a firm quote based on a phone call, without visiting our property. His philosophy is that an initial visit is seldom required when the homeowner knows what they want and has already measured the fence length, so why waste time when you can have a firm quote immediately on the phone. Rob asked thorough questions and spoke convincingly to every question I had. Upon selecting them to do our project and placing our deposit, we were given a slot on their schedule and a start date. A few days before that date rolled around we were notified that there was an earlier opening available, so the work started, and completed, earlier than anticipated. Rob was on site for the project start, confirmed that everything was as I described, and introduced us to his project manager, Jose. Jose and his team worked diligently and only needed a couple of questions answered over the course of the three days. Rob called twice to ensure that all was going well and to apprise me of some timing details. We could not be happier with the fence they built for us, as discussed, according to contract and earlier than we had been anticipating. I highly recommend Rob and his Adirondack team

The so-called customer service offered by this company is not just poor, it is appalling. Do business with them at your own risk. No one ever answers the phone. They only called back when I said, on the second call, that it was my second message. And only after I said on the third call that it was the third message and complained about their inability to even return a call. When I pointed that out to a so-called employee of theirs, Rob, he didn't care and said that they are a small company who doesn't have the time to answer the phone. I pointed out that this complaint has been made more than once on Consumer Checkbook, and his response was essentially to knock myself out and go ahead and complain again. So, Rob, I am doing precisely what you requested. Finally, after explaining my situation, he said that he does not operate in DC and flatly asserted that his website says that. That statement was a blatant lie. As of today, May 2, 2025, his website clearly says "Fence Builder and Repairs -- Top rated fence installation company serving the Washington Metro area, No. Va. Md. D.C." Do business with them at your own risk.
