It was a pleasure working with Ed. To create the base of my 500 SF patio he hauled off around 14 yards of dirt and left me with a level rough grade. He also delivered a 14 ton pile of gravel and stone dust exactly where I needed it (on part of the patio site as opposed to my driveway where a standard dump truck delivery would leave it). Finally, he dug out a large hole (4' x 4' x 5' deep) for a dry well. Ed has all the big toys you enjoyed as a toddler (dump truck, excavator, skid steer loader, etc.) and knows how to use them in tight quarters. His price for delivering gravel was very competitive and the overall cost to dig me out seemed reasonable (I don't have multiple quotes to compare to). While I know he takes on some larger projects he seems to mostly run a one man show. This probably keeps overhead down and means he is willing to tackle homeowner jobs. Ed has experience in several trades and offered some very good advice on my overall project.
