Have boarded 4 of our dogs there over 20 years, and have ALWAYS had a good experience at Mtn Run. Our dogs have loved going there, and have come back from their vacations in great shape: clean, happy and healthy

My golden retriever was seriously injured while I boarded him at Mountain Run kennel. Although I had requested that he be walked individually, they cut corners and put him in a "play group" where he was attacked by a group of 5 or so dogs, including 2 English Bulldogs that I was told started the attack. My male was very gentle and non-aggressive, although he was not neutered, which made him a target of aggressive males. The kennel's supervision of the "play group" was not adequate, and the staff were not able to get the situation under control right away. He was very seriously injured and had to be taken to a veterinarian and hospitalized. However, the kennel did not call to inform me! I found out 2 days later when I called to set a time to pick him up. When I got to the veterinarian, she charged me an expensive fee to pick him up, because she did not have Sunday pick up hours (!). I was glad I had insisted on getting him, because he had 20+ bites all over his stomach, legs, and face and seemed to be in a great deal of pain. I took him to my own vet who was worried he would not survive and advised I take him to Southpaws, a referral hospital that hospitalized him for several days. The worst part of all was how cold and unapologetic the owner was. She told me I should "belly up to the bar and take car of him myself" rather than hospitalize him. This was, I suppose, because she wanted to avoid paying the vet bill. She had no compassion for the animal or any realistic sense of how injured he was or how much skilled medical care was needed -- well beyond what I could have done at home. She did not apologize to me for having allowed such an attack to happen. I give her the lowest marks of any kennel I have used in the 40 years I have had golden retrievers.
