I used Cropp Metcalfe for years and then stopped due to inconsistent performance among technicians. I called them out recently when my heat pump stopped working just three weeks after I had had seasonable maintenance done by a different company. The other company was going to charge a steep emergency fee on the weekend. The Cropp Metcalf scheduling person was very nice and empathetic. It was a couple of days before someone could come out but he arrived early in the scheduled window. He quickly diagnosed the problem. I later learned (from a second opinion and seeing the evidence myself) that the Cropp Metcalf tech missed signs of the refrigerant leak supporting that the leak was due to a loose valve and it had leaked all over the base of the unit. The Cropp Metcalf tech said it would be over $600 to do leak detection; another company quoted me $200 for that. Due to the age of my heat pump, I asked for a quote for a new one. The sales person came out the next day and even with a "loyalty discount," their quote was the highest. They also have a "lease" program which sounds kind of predatory - if I did it I would have ended up paying 2x the cost of the new unit over the time of the agreement. I did not buy my new unit from them.

I've had service contracts with them for years and have replaced at least 3 heat pump systems with them. My experiences have generally been very good.

They need some work on their scheduling; missed window badly - something to expect this time of year. Technician was top notch - good coaching and friendly, very experienced.
