After settlement, their company policy is to send a check to the mortgage company for loan payoff instead of doing a bank transfer. This allows them to earn interest on the float while the check is in transit, and even more when they close on a Friday and the check doesn't arrive for 3 days. Meanwhile, we had to pay 3 extra days of interest on the loan. They told us they use a loan payoff amount that is higher than what is owed on settlement day "in case something goes wrong", but in reality, they know that the check won't get to the mortgage company for 1-3 more days and we will owe 1-3 days interest on the loan. This is very deceitful. Also, they were so backed up on settlement date (Friday) that they didn't do the bank transfer to us until the following Monday, thereby giving them another 3-day float on what was due to us. Very shady company. Don't use them.
