In preparation for the summer season, in April 2026 I contacted Fairfax Cooling & Heating in Herndon, VA for maintenance on my ten-year old air conditioner. Mike, the owner, checked the air conditioner, finding it generally in good working order except that the fins needed to be cleaned of accumulated dirt. Later he checked my gas furnace, which was working fine but the natural gas regulator, more than 10 years old, was leaking gas and should be replaced. While I did not smell any leakage, my wife did and we requested a replacement. The cost of the maintenance check was $150, and the purchase and installation of a new regulator was to be $500. Later that day, a different staff person came to replace the regulator but could not find the right parts to make it work. Instead, Fairfax Cooling hired a plumbing company er to redo the connection at no additional charge to me. Several hours later, several plumbers arrived to make the connection and installed the new regulator. I sent a check for $650 to Fairfax Cooling & Heating before receiving an invoice because I was leaving on vacation for several weeks. Mike called me back saying that because of delays, he would only charge me $500 for both the maintenance and the new regulator. The balance of $100 would be returned to me or it could be held in reserve for future maintenance or repairs. I will use this company in the future and recommend it.

Had a A/C check-up for the summer. Technician seemed to do a fine quick job. Didn't clean the coils although he did check and say they didn't need cleaned. I was told it was a $75 fee but the tech charged $125, which is on par with other companies.

Due to a number of recent issues I was convinced my heat pump needed replacement and called for a quote. Mike himself came out within an hour, diagnosed and fixed my problem, and told me I could keep my current pump operating for a while yet. His honesty and professionalism were a breath of fresh air, going with Fairfax Cooling and heating is the best decision I've made in ages!
